Design and Working:
Agitated Thin Film Dryer is also called as Thin Film Dryer or Vacuum Dryer.
ATFD has two configurations, vertical and horizontal. The Vertical Agitated Thin Film Dryer (ATFD-V) accepts feed in solution and slurry form. Whereas, Horizontal Agitated Thin Film Dryer (ATFD-H), along with solution and slurry, also accepts feed in paste or wet powder form. Hence, dilution of feeds is avoided arising from such limitations.
Vertical Agitated Thin Film Dryer (ATFD-V)and Horizontal Agitated Thin Film Dryer (ATFD-H)have a centrally located rotor having closely fitting blades. It rotates in a precision-machined jacketed shell.
The feed is converted into a thin film, which is intensely agitated due to action of the high-speed rotor.
The feed material passes through phases of liquid, slurry, paste, wet powder and finally dry powder while in the form of an agitated thin film.
The biggest advantage of ATFD-V is that it is the most energy efficient dryer in the market. Thermal efficiency exceeds 90%.Whereas the advantage of ATFD-H is that it along with solution and slurry, also accepts feed in paste or wet powder form.
